What is really important?

Thursday night, while I was getting our things together to evacuate, my sister-in-law called to make sure I was preparing for this storm. She has a weatherman friend who told her that we needed to make sure we got out of the area because Hurricane Ike was heading directly for our area. Before we hung up, she reminded me that I needed to take anything of Jon's that was special to me. She even made the comment that she knew I wasn't a "thing" person, but wanted to remind me anyway. I thought about that as I packed up the car. She's so right. If there's one thing I've learned in the past 7 months, it is that things are not that important to me. As we were leaving Friday morning, evacuating to Lancaster, I made sure to take the three most important things that remind me of Jon...our three little ones.
Although we haven't made it back home yet, my sister has gone by our house. We do not have electricity and there are some branches down, but unlike Galveston, we were spared any serious damage from this hurricane. For that, we are extremely grateful.
